Carmella, the Candy Corn Witch
Appearance
Carmella, the Candy Corn Witch
[edit]Affiliation: The Brew Cycle (unwillingly bound) Status: Partially Sealed
Overview
[edit]Carmella is an ancient and enigmatic figure within the Pour Boy universe, often referred to as the Candy Corn Witch. A being of immense magical power, she is tied deeply to the Brew Cycle and the fall of the Persimmon Order. Her story weaves across multiple arcs, most notably in The Curse of the Caramel Knight and the Pour Boy Video Game.
Though she appears in different states across the canon, her fractured existence explains the variations: only part of her essence is encountered beneath the graveyard in the game, while her true body remains imprisoned at Castle at Orange Hill, guarded for centuries by Syr Brittle, the Caramel Knight.
Backstory
[edit]- Long ago, the Persimmon Order sought to guard the Dark Roast Tome, but their oath was broken through corruption and hubris.
- Carmella, whose power was seen as both essential and dangerous, was sealed away to prevent catastrophe.
- Syr Brittle, bound by unbreakable oath and tragic love, became her eternal jailer.
- Her imprisonment fractured her essence: part bound to Orange Hill, part leaking into the world as spirit, whisper, and temptation.
Role in the Video Game
[edit]- In the Pour Boy Video Game, players encounter Carmella’s spiritual fragment beneath the graveyard, where her power was sealed by rites of the Persimmon Order.
- She appears in physical form without a true body, a ghostly figure whose presence bends reality around her.
- The player may choose to free Carmella’s essence, allowing her to rejoin her greater self. This is not her full return but a step toward her eventual release.
- Her freedom in this fragmentary state tempts the player with both power and peril, foreshadowing her larger role in later arcs.
Role in The Curse of the Caramel Knight
[edit]- In the Caramel Knight storyline, Carmella’s true body is revealed to remain sealed beneath Castle Orange Hill.
- Syr Brittle has guarded her for centuries, a tragic knight torn between his oath to uphold the tenets of the order that ordered him to imprison her and his emotional devotion and love for her.
- When the seal is broken, Carmella regains her body and escapes, unpredictable and no longer bound by the Order’s oaths.
- Her release marks the return of one of the most dangerous and seductive figures tied to the Brew Cycle.
Nature & Themes
[edit]- Carmella embodies contradiction: beloved yet feared, sacred yet cursed, imprisoned yet irresistible.
- She is at once victim and villain, power bound and power unleashed.
- Her narrative threads highlight love versus duty, freedom versus imprisonment, and the unpredictable consequences of unlocking what was sealed away.
Connection to the Nocturne
[edit]- Carmella’s magic is believed to stem from a direct tie to the Nocturne, though whether she serves it willingly or is merely a conduit remains uncertain.
- Her fragmented existence may itself be the result of the Nocturne’s influence, a being existing in parts across time and space, physical in one place, spectral in another.
In-Universe Explanation of Duality
[edit]- Video Game: Player encounters Carmella’s essence sealed under the graveyard, a fragment of her power.
- Caramel Knight Story: Her true body remains locked at Castle Orange Hill until the seal is broken.
- Resolution: Freeing her essence in the game does not undo her imprisonment. It only reunites one piece of her being with the larger whole.
