Though he plays the benevolent impresario, Grey is a calculating collector who binds performers with clever contracts and steers the circus toward places where the Brew Cycle runs strongest. He maintains a discreet arrangement with Basil Cane, the Coffee Alchemist, whose designs on the Dark Roast Tome and the Nocturne push the carnival ever closer to ruin.
